According to tradition Data Respons R&D Services gathered to kick off the new year – this time in beautiful Trysil. It was also the time to choose this year’s “Knight of the Golden Sandal”, which has been a tradition since 2007. The weekend was magical in every possible way with lots of socializing, plenty of good conversation, amazing skiing conditions and delicious food. In addition, Trysil offered sunshine and fantastic weather all weekend, which resulted in a very successful kick-off for 2023!
Data Respons R&D Services consists of seven development departments in eastern and western Norway. In a digital and distributed everyday life, our annual kick-off is a fantastic opportunity to bring together the whole company. By going on a trip to a place where we can do joint activities, be social and have fun together, we create commitment and motivation, while at the same time building loyalty to each other and the company. We also invite all those who have signed a contract and will start during 2023. This is a unique opportunity for future employees to get to know their new colleagues even before starting. With this, the onboarding starts at an early stage, and our new employees thus get a flying start already from the first day of work. The importance of getting to know and bonding with each other across departments is extremely important – that’s why this weekend is incredibly valuable to us!
On Thursday afternoon, the bus was loaded and ready for departure from Høvik. Before the bus went in the direction of Trysil, there was a small pit stop at Gardermoen to pick up those who flew in from Bergen and Stavanger. Afterwards the trip went straight to Trysil and Radisson Blu Resort.
Friday morning was gloriously sunny, and those who wanted spent the day on the slopes and on the ski track in lovely conditions. Others used the day for some well-deserved relaxation in the hotel’s pool and spa department. Eventually everyone gathered for after-ski before the trip moved on to Peppes and a well-deserved dinner. At Peppes it was also arranged for some activities which offered a golden opportunity to talk to both old and new colleagues.
On Saturday, the stage was set for a celebratory dinner. Most had taken advantage of the fine weather this day as well, but when the evening came everyone was ready for a 3 course meal. With some fine wine in the glasses and entertainment from the department managers, it was time to find out who should be named “Knight of the Golden Sandal 2022”.
Knight of the Golden Sandal is a tradition we have had since 2007, and it is an award that goes to the developer who has excelled in particular, and who has showed outstanding effort beyond what is expected of any developer in Data Respons R&D Services. A Knight of the Golden Sandal is also a person who reflects our values; has Integrity, always performs, is generous and takes responsibility.
Of those who were nominated for this year’s award, it was Jörgen Eriksson who ran away with the trophy. Eriksson is described as a very responsible and skilled developer. He has been with Data Respons for more than 6 years, and during this time has become an instrumental part of Data Respons’ performance. He takes responsibility for both large project deliveries and for solving small companies’ major problems, while at the same time maintaining full focus on safeguarding the 4 success criteria Quality, Cost, Time and Function.
With that, another successful kick-off has been completed. Sunday morning we packed up and said goodbye to everyone. The weekend offered great nature experiences, fun entertainment and new acquaintances between the departments. We are already looking forward to the next time we have the pleasure of bringing everyone together again!
